P

rivate news channel MetroTV has fired journalist Hilman Mattauch over his reported role in the legal saga implicating House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto.

MetroTV said Hilman had violated the news channel's protocols by picking up Setya and driving him to an interview at the broadcaster's studio in Kebun Jeruk, West Jakarta.

"The procedure at MetroTV requires that a guest is picked up and driven in the company's car, not a personal vehicle," MetroTV chief editor Don Bosco Selamun said as quoted by tempo.co

The car driven by Hilman, in which Setya was a passenger, was involved in an accident on Friday, resulting in the House speaker sustaining injuries.

Hilman was reportedly behind the wheel of the car and charged under Traffic Law articles 283 and 310 on reckless driving, which carry a maximum three-month jail sentence.

In 2016, MetroTV dismissed Hilman, who then covered the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), for allegedly representing figures implicated in corruption cases handled by the commission.
