Golkar Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto, who is expected to seek reelection as the party's chief, recently secured the support of the party's young wing, the Indonesian Reform Youth Force (AMPI).
olkar Party chair Airlangga Hartarto has hinted at confidence in winning the party’s upcoming chairmanship race, after securing the support of an additional subsidiary organization.
Golkar is set to hold its national congress in December, during which Airlangga, whose term ends on Dec. 4, is expected seek reelection, fending off bids from several other party politicians.
The figures rumored to be joining the race include Golkar deputy chair and People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker Bambang Soesatyo, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
On Tuesday, Airlangga received a declaration of support from Golkar youth wing the Indonesian Reform Youth Force (AMPI), adding to the list of party organizations that have thrown their weight behind the coordinating economic minister.
When asked about his confidence that he would win the leadership contest, Airlangga answered, “Insyaallah [God willing],” as quoted by Antara.

Earlier this month, two of Golkar’s largest and founding organizations, Kosgoro and the Mutual Assistance Consultative Organization (MKGR), declared their support for the incumbent chairman.
