our F-16 jet fighters granted to Indonesia by the United States have arrived at the Iswahjudi Air Force Base in Magetan, East Java, on Tuesday, while two others are grounded in Hawaii.
The aircraft are part of a total of 24 aircraft the US government has promised to Indonesia. The latest arrival brings to 22 the number of planes delivered so far, significantly strenghtening – at least in numbers – the fleet of Indonesia’s Air Force.
The four aircraft of the type F-16C, which has improved avionics and weaponry systems than previous versions of the F-16, departed from the US on Monday and made a stop in Guam, Hawaii, before landing at Iswahjudi on Tuesday, as reported by kompas.com.
Initially, six such aircraft had been scheduled to arrive in Indonesia, said Iswahjudi commander First Marshal Samsul Rizal, but only four planes had landed on schedule.
"Two of the planes suffered engine trouble after landing in Hawaii; the two aircraft need to undergo repair work," Samsul said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Some of the 24 aircraft will be stationed at Squadron 3 at Iswahjudi and some at Squadron 16 at the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force base in Pekanbaru, Riau. (ipa)
