akarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he had reprimanded the developer of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu toll road (“Becakayu”) for allegedly causing the narrowing of a water channel on Jl. DI Panjaitan in East Jakarta.

Anies said the width of the water channel had been narrowed to 1.2 meters from its previous width of 3 meters because of the toll road's construction. Jl. DI Panjaitan runs underneath the elevated toll road.

The long awaited section 1B-1C of the Becakayu toll road was inaugurated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Nov. 3 after the project had been stalled for 20 years.

Anies said he had asked the manager of PT Kresna Kusuma Dyandra Marga, the toll road developer, to construct a temporary water channel and expand it later.

“Becakayu toll road benefits its users […]. But I don’t want those under the road to suffer just so the users above can feel comfortable. We want everyone to be trouble free,” Anies said.

Meanwhile, the company's project leader, Ayuda Priyantoro, said it was in fact a temporary water channel that was now under the spotlight. The developer would build permanent channels after the toll road project was completed in April next year.  (wnd)
