he West Jakarta Police arrested on Monday a woman who had been hiding in a house on Jl. Komplek Kenanga in Tangerang, Banten, after allegedly embezzling Rp 623 million (US$43,610) from her place of employment.
“It took us a week to finally arrest her, after the company reported that she had caused hundreds of millions of rupiah in losses,” West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi said on Wednesday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Based on an initial investigation, the woman had been stealing the funds over an extended period, according to West Jakarta Police crime unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Edy Suranta Sitepu.
“She allegedly requested money several times to procure items for the office, but then she used the funds to have fun,” he said, without elaborating on what "fun" encapsulated.
The police, Edy added, had confiscated the woman’s pay slips, forged invoice receipts and her employment contract. (vla)
