span class="inline inline-center">A staff member of the Malang Waste Bank (BSM) shreds plastic food packaging into small pieces, which will be repurposed to make handicrafts in Malang, East Java, on Sunday. The trash bank receives around 150 tons of waste each month and manages to generate around Rp 300 million (US$21,900) in additional income for people involved in its various trash-for-cash programs. In recognition of its success, the Environment and Forestry Ministry has chosen the BSM to serve as a model for similar projects in other regions nationwide.(JP/Aman Rochman)
