Greater Jakarta: City allocates Rp 1b for documentary

T

he Jakarta administration has agreed to spend more than Rp 1 billion (US$68,758) to produce a 20-minute documentary.

Jakarta National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol) acting head Taufan Bakri said the movie would be about some of Jakarta’s famous historic figures.

“This [project] is for the love of art and culture in movie making. [The documentary] will depict Jakarta figures who represent the spirit of struggle. The duration will be 20 minutes, [and it will be] a documentary,” Taufan said during a Jakarta Council meeting on the city’s 2019 budget priorities on Thursday.

Kompas.com reported that Kesbangpol’s annual budget was initially set at Rp 847 million, but was increased to Rp 2.8 billion before finally settling at Rp 3.6 billion. The proposed amount has been approved by the Jakarta Council’s budget committee.

“For the film, [the budget] is not going to be that big. If I am not mistaken, [the movie] will cost a little over Rp 1 billion,” Taufan said, adding that the documentary would take the form of a biopic.

He explained that the movie would include such historic figures as Betawi folk hero Si Pitung and legendary Jakarta governor Ali Sadikin.
