P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo went to Singapore on Thursday to visit former first lady Ani Yudhoyono, who is currently undergoing treatment at the National University Hospital in Singapore for leukemia.

Jokowi, who was accompanied by First Lady Iriana, told journalists before departing for the neighboring country that they had allocated special time to visit Ani, during which the President would also meet with his predecessor, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

"Let's pray together so that Ibu Ani Yudhoyono can be healed soon, be healthy so that she can return home very soon,"  Jokowi said on Thursday.

After visiting Ani and meeting with Yudhoyono, Jokowi and Iriana would return directly to Indonesia, the President said.

Yudhoyono revealed last week that his wife had been receiving intensive medical care at the National University Hospital since Feb. 2 for a type of blood cancer.

The Democratic Party patron has reportedly decided to forego getting involved in any more campaign events ahead of the 2019 election in April as he wanted to focus on Ani's treatment until her health improved.

The party is part of the coalition that supports presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno.
