ndonesia reported on Tuesday 2,069 confirmed coronavirus deaths, an all-time high of daily deaths, data from the national COVID-19 task force showed.

It was the 11th consecutive day the country recorded four-digit fatalities, at a time when multi-tiered public activity restrictions (PPKM) are in effect to slow down transmission during the second wave of the pandemic.

The government also recorded 45,203 new infections, taking the tally to over 3.2 million, with more than 86,000 deaths.

The country has become Asia's COVID-19 epicenter, overtaking India, with hospitals deluged and oxygen supplies running thin.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo extended on Sunday the PPKM to Aug. 2, with certain restrictions under the strictest level 4 PPKM being relaxed. For instance, food stalls with open spaces are allowed to offer dine-in services until 8 p.m. to a maximum of three customers at one time, with a maximum of 20 minutes to eat.
