Butet, OSR music video promotes health protocols

n a bid to help improve people’s awareness of the importance of complying with strict health protocols, notable artist Butet Kartaredjasa and music group Orkes Sinten Remen (OSR) launched on Wednesday a music video for the latter’s latest song “Protokol Kesehatan, Laksanakan!” (Health Protocol, Implement!).
The launch was aired live on Butet Kertaredjasa’s YouTube channel and Orkes Sinten Remen’s Instagram account from Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja art center in Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Also at the launch was popular kroncong singer Endah Laras, singing her own version of “Protokol Kesehatan, Laksanakan!”.
Butet said he came up with the idea to produce the video because the message that the song carried was relevant to the current pandemic situation, while at the same time OSR has for quite some time not produced any videos.
“The message that this song carries is very good and interesting,” said Butet, adding that the production process of the video clip was supported by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.
Butet said the music video was relevant to be produced because experts had predicted that the COVID-19 pandemic would still be part of our everyday life, at least until the end of next year, before the vaccination program was distributed evenly.
The artist said that one of the best ways to encourage the public to implement the health protocols was through a song.
“Producing a music video is a way of bringing this song closer to the public,” he said, adding that the song was first introduced to the public six weeks ago.
Butet went on to say that the artists who took part in the project including singers, musicians and filmmakers, also had a responsibility to participate in the global fight against the virus spread.
“[The project] allows us to remind the public of the risk of neglecting the health protocols,” he said, adding that doing so could save human lives.
The song's composer and member of OSR, Kendar Wahyudi, said he wanted the public to be aware of the importance of working together to stop the virus transmission when they hear “Protokol Kesehatan, Laksanakan!”.
“We cannot do it alone. We have to do it together by implementing the health protocols. There is no need to blame one another,” Kendar said.
Orkes Sinten Remen (OSR) was established in 1997 and has been consistent in presenting creative traditional kroncong music known for its criticism yet humorous and satirical elements. (swa)
