Communications minister and Projo leader Budi has called for police to drop a complaint alleging the renowned comedian of violating the KUHP on perpetrating a minor insult when he used the Javanese word for "dog" in a derogatory way to refer to the President.
he leader of Projo, the largest group of supporters of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, has called for police to drop a complaint against Yogyakarta-based comedian Butet Kertarajasa, who is accused of insulting Jokowi during a campaign event.
Projo leader Budi Arie Setiaji, who is also the incumbent communications and information minister, said the President's supporters should take the insult lightly and not blow it out of proportion.
"Please don't cause noise in public. I am the one who is targeted in his speech, and I didn't press charges. After all, Pak [Mr.] Butet is one of our friends," Budi said on Monday, as quoted by Antara.
Several Jokowi supporters filed a police report in Yogyakarta that accuses the comedian of violating Article 315 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on minor insults.
The complaint refers to a campaign event for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in late January, when Butet used a derogative term to refer to the President.
Butet was caught on camera uttering the Javanese word "dog" after the name of the President during a poetry reading at the event.
However, the comedian is known for regularly using derogatory terms and profanity in his performances.
