Jakarta Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Sandi Nugroho urged Butet to file a report on against any individuals involved in intimidation.
he Jakarta Police have dismissed allegations of intimidation of veteran actor and comedian Butet Kartaredjasa prior to his political satire staged last week.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Sandi Nugroho urged Butet to file a report against any individuals involved in acts of intimidation, as well as the need for extra security measures during his performance.
"If there are any [officers] deviating from regulations, please report it, so we don't need to rely on presumptions,” Sandi was quoted by Antara.
Late last week, Butet and playwright Agus Noor made a claim that they had been subjected to intimidation prior to staging the political satire Musuh Bebuyutan (Mortal Enemy) at the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center on Dec. 1.
The two claimed officers from the Cikini Police arrived before the performance to request a statement letter from the organizers.
The letter, signed by Butet, stated that the organizer would not engage in election campaigning, distribute election campaign materials, use political party attributes, use attributes championing presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs or engage in other political activities.
Although the committee still proceeded with the performance, the organizer deemed the police’s act unacceptable. "For us, that was intimidation," said Agus.
