Here are 20 places to go for meat lovers for any day of carnivore galore in Jakarta.
Aged + Butchered
Aged + Butchered is a cosmopolitan steakhouse known for its classy interior and Japanese flavors. It serves selected dry-aged meat that has been hung long enough for the moisture in it to evaporate. The result is entirely different meat that is more flavorful and very tender in texture.
The restaurant’s pride and joy is the Wagyu steak, which is decadent and tender, but there are other signature dishes such as Uni & Egg Souffle and Hamachi Tataki. Aged + Butchered is open from noon to 3 p.m. for weekday lunch sessions, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for weekday dinner sessions, and all day at weekends from noon to 11 p.m. at MD Place Building, Setiabudi, Jakarta.
Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris Steak House offers an elegant atmosphere and a variety of delicious dishes to pair with its exquisite wine collection and desserts. It boasts steaks that are grilled at a temperature of up to 982 degrees Celsius. The steaks are served in a simple display so as not to mask the taste of the quality meat.
There are also other popular dishes such as its Sizzlin’ Blue Crab Cakes and lobster bisque, plus the famous cheesecake to end the course. Lurking in a front corner of Somerset Grand Citra, Karet, Jakarta, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse opens daily in two sessions, 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner.
Bistecca
The restaurants under the Union Group never disappoint with their best quality and delicious food. Bistecca is another example of that premise. The Italian-American steakhouse and martini bar has an array of classic steaks, luscious Italian dishes and tempting cocktails that can please any epicure.
Take its signature Bistecca Fiorentina for example, which is a big 1-kilogram slab of dry-aged meat that has been cured for 45 days. Executive chef Luca Pezzera also produces other recipes to dig in to, such as slow-cooked octopus and creamy parmesan spinach. Visit Bistecca at 18 Parc SCBD, Jakarta, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. but bear in mind that a reservation is recommended.
El Asador
El Asador is a haven for western food and high-quality meat lovers. The restaurant is famous for its quality BBQ beef, as well as T-bone steak and rib-eye steak slathered with chimichurri sauce. El Asador mainly offers a menu from parts of South America including Uruguay and Argentina, such as its signature Biffes con Cebolla.
Also offering gluten-free options, El Asador opens daily from noon to 10 p.m. at Kemang Point Building, Ground Floor, Jl. Kemang Raya, Kemang, Jakarta.
Maison Tatsuya
Maison Tatsuya is a Japanese concept restaurant that already has many branches. Maison Tatsuya serves premium quality teppanyaki with live cooking performed in front of its guests. Favorite combo? Try the ume package that consists of vegetables and tofu, seafood, meat, miso soup, moyashi (bean sprouts) and yakimeshi.
The restaurant is managed by Arena Corp., which is also affiliated with Hongkong Cafe, Penang Bistro, Seribu Rasa, Joy Luck Pot, Greyhound Cafe, Miyagi and Menya Musashi. Maison Tatsuya currently has four different locations, namely Aeon Mall BSD, Kebon Sirih, Central Park Mall and Gatot Subroto.
Wolfgang's Steakhouse Jakarta
Located in the prestigious SCBD area and boasting a luxurious design, Wolfgang's Steakhouse Jakarta is a branch of a famous steak restaurant in New York. The restaurant serves a mean porterhouse prime steak with 1kg of 28-day dry-aged meat.
Also known for its burgers and variety of drinks, Wolfgang’s is located at Elysee Building, Level 6 Rooftop, LOT 21 SCBD Jl. General Sudirman Kav. 52-53, South Jakarta.
La Posta
La Posta serves an Argentinian-style menu in large portions with a warm atmosphere. Its high-quality steak is seasoned with thick spice that elevates its flavor. However, it is also known for its roast lamb and decadent chocolate caramel tart.
La Posta is located on Jl. Karet Pasar Baru Timur 5 No. 25, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, and opens from Monday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner.
Angus House
Angus House restaurant serves premium Japanese-style steak with tender Kobe beef and Wagyu. The favorite menu item here is the rib eye, but it also serves other luxurious ingredients such as scallops, sea urchin and abalone for the ultimate surf and turf adventure.
For a complete journey, order a course set that comes with hors d’oeuvre, soup, salad, rice or bread, and dessert. Angus House opens daily at Plaza Senayan and Plaza Indonesia.
Double U Steak by Chef Widhi
Scooting over a bit to Bekasi or Pondok Aren or Beji, Double U Steak serves affordable steak drenched in butter or homemade sauce and grilled over the lava stone created by chef Widhi who has won several slots in the Guinness Book of World Records for his unique cooking performances.
The three locations are popular spots and it might take up to 30 minutes until a non-reservation guest gets a table. Double U Steak by chef Widhi opens daily from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner.
Holycow! Steakhouse by Chef Afit
Holycow! Steakhouse was established by its founders to serve affordable Wagyu steak and they delivered. With a price range of around Rp 400,000 (US$27.59) for two people, customers rave about the restaurant’s affordable Rib-Eye Big Bites, creamy mushroom sauce and crunchy fries.
The chain restaurant is quite easy to find as it is available in 14 different locations, including Tendean, Wolter Monginsidi, Cilandak Town Square, PIK, Green Sedayu and Kalibata City.
Tokyo Skipjack
Tokyo Skipjack offers a comfortable and relaxed dining atmosphere with a delicious range of food. This restaurant really emphasizes Japanese elements in its dishes. In addition to its succulent steaks, Japanese take on chimichurri sauce, and fragrant wasabi butter, there are also other typical Japanese menu items such as gyoza, karaage and teriyaki sets.
Order Tokyo Skipjack’s famous porterhouse steak that is served with fresh salad at M Bloc Space or Blok M, Bulungan.
Abuba
Abuba is a steakhouse that was specially established for families. It has established its own roots in Jakarta and Bandung, with more than 21 branches in the national capital and two in the West Java capital remaining operational to date. Most Abuba branches open daily all day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., including the ones in Menteng, Matraman, Senopati, Pluit and Fatmawati.
On top of good quality beef, Abuba also serves lamb, chicken, fish and even vegan options for its charcoal-grilled steaks. It also offers a variety of pasta, rice and a menu for children.
Sudestada
Sudestada Jakarta serves authentic Argentinian and Latin American dishes, from grilled meats to pizza. It is popular for its signature parilla or charcoal-grilled dishes, such as the roast octopus, ojo de bife, ribeye, bife de chorizo, chuleton, striploin and tira de asado.
Most steaks come with chef Victor’s chimichurri sauce, made fresh every day in the Sudestada kitchen. Sudestada is located on Jl. Irian No. 18, Thamrin and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
C's Steak and Seafood
As the name implies, the featured menu at this restaurant in Jakarta is steak and fresh seafood. Choose between bearnaise, black pepper, lemon butter, mushroom, rosemary or salsa verde to go with juicy options that range from the tenderloin and lamb chops, to king prawns.
Part of the Grand Hyatt, Central Jakarta, C's Steak & Seafood Restaurant is also the venue for the famous three-dimensional culinary offering titled Le Petit Chef. C's Steak & Seafood opens daily from noon to 10 p.m.
Tony Roma's
Tony Roma's is famous for its huge portions and rich flavors. Definitely designed for a massive cheat day, the restaurant offers grilled ribs, Wagyu striploin, rib-eye steak, onion rings and a tempting combo that comes not only with ribs but also shrimp and chicken.
The restaurant originated in the United States and is now available to visit at UOB Plaza or Gandaria City Mall.
Sir Loin
Eating at a steak restaurant with a classic concept does not have to be expensive. At the Sir Loin restaurant, a fine steak dining experience comes at an affordable price. Located in the prime Kebayoran Baru area, Sir Loin serves curated quality beef with an authentic taste in its classic minimalist establishment.
True to its name, the restaurant is proud of its sirloin steak. Guests can enjoy live cooking and pay only around Rp 250,000 per two guests. Sir Loin welcomes everyone between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
Cutt & Grill
Cutt & Grill has the concept of a family restaurant where guests can choose not only from the beef steak menu, but also chicken, seafood and fish to go along with the prime cut, such as its Australian tenderloin.
Available in both Tebet and Senopati, a Cutt & Grill feast will cost around Rp 350,000 for two. The Senopati branch is also known for its entertaining live music and a slightly more expensive menu. However, both branches offer equally tasty drinks to go with the steak dishes and fancy atmosphere.
Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse has a varied menu of steak and ribs, from the Outback Special 6 or 8 oz sirloin steak to BBQ beef ribs. Inspired by Australian tastes, Outback Steakhouse offers these high-quality and fresh food ingredients in its cuisine at fairly high prices.
Ranging from Rp 239,900 to Rp 429,900 per slab of grilled goodness, Outback Steakhouse is located in several prominent malls of Jakarta such as Pasaraya Grande, Kuningan City, Pondok Indah Mall I and Ratu Plaza.
Benihana
Many restaurants offer unique concepts to attract the attention of diners, one such is Benihana. Offering an open-kitchen concept, Benihana is famous for its teppanyaki that comes with soup and salad, prepared by trained chefs. Rumor has it that each chef requires five to 15 years of training in the US before they are considered to be fit to serve Benihana’s teppanyaki.
The Japanese steakhouse offers its hibachi dishes at Plaza Indonesia for approximately Rp 900,000 per two people from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuccano's Churrascaria
This is the restaurant that has long been known to the public for its delicious meat dishes of special quality with an all-you-can-eat concept. Tucano's Churrascaria brings the pleasure of enjoying the best quality meat dishes with authentic Brazilian churrasco spices atop specially roasted meat that is cooked at 900 degrees Celsius.
It offers a variety of meat dishes, such as picanha (prime top sirloin), alcatra (top sirloin), fraldinha (flank), garlic sirloin, coracao (chicken heart), frango (chicken leg) and grilled pineapple at its three locations, namely Pavilion Retail Arcade, Senayan City and Lebak Bulus.
