he Sabang city administration in Aceh province is set to develop Klah Island in Sukakarya district as a culinary tourism destination.
"Following the designation of Sabang as a national strategic tourist area (KSPN), hopefully the culinary tourism development will be able to provide a supporting attraction and boost tourist arrivals in the region," Sabang Development Planning Board (Bappeda) head Anas Fahruddin told Antara news agency in Sabang on Monday.

With its strategic location, Klah Island is considered to be a potential site to promote traditional Sabang dishes. "We will encourage local people to cultivate fish in floating net cages, or keramba, and tourists will be able to directly choose which fish in the keramba they want to enjoy."
The development of keramba off the island is expected to improve the local economy while the city administration gradually works on other tourist destinations. (fmn/kes)
