he first Jakarta Dragon Boat Festival is set to launch on May 20 at Bahtera Jaya sports center in East Ancol, North Jakarta.
Open for the public, the event will host around 40 teams competing in the 250-meter race, as well as music performances and food stalls. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the festival.
The dragon boat itself is a water sport that combines physical activity, entertainment and multi-cultural interaction in which each boat will have 12 to 22 paddlers, which include one drummer and one helmsperson.

Organized by the Jakarta Paddle Club and the Dayung Bahtera Club, the festival encourages people to take part in the race. Those who are inexperienced and at least 14 years of age can participate as they will receive training prior to the event.
Each team will race in two qualifying heats before moving on to the final stage. Registration ends on April 7. (kes)
