East Java holds 13th Southern Region Art Festival

ast Java Culture Department recently held the Southern Region Art Festival (FKKS) 2017 event at Prigi beach, Trenggalek on October 21 -22. This latest event marked the 13thtimes FKKS has been held in East Java.

Themed “Indonesia Jaranan Charm” the festival showcased the jaranan art as the art icon of East Java. Deputy of the archipelago cultural tourism marketing development, Esthy Reko Astuty explained that the festival is held to preserve, developed and utilize East Java's cultural diversity. "This is also a part of the cultural diversity management in East Java, as well as the means to showcase arts and culture creativity which serves as promotional attractions for culture and tourism potentials," she added.

A total of eight regencies located in the southern coast area participated in the event.

Trenggalek regency showcased Turangga Yaksa, while Pacitan regency showcased Jaranan parade. Blitar regency wowed the audience with its Brigade Gong Kyai Pradah, while Tulungagung regency showcased Sengkolo Parade Gumebyaning Bumi Lawadan Mulys Tinata. 

Banyuwangi regency, which has been holding several tourism events recently, showcased Rebut Pedhut Sang Mbau Rekso Alas Purwo, while Lumajang regency showcased its well-known Rokat with Jaran Slining parade. East Java fashion capital, Jember regency, showcased Jaranan Kuwal Rogopadmi with Ampak – Ampak Rogopadmi Parade and finally, Malang regency showcased Tri Tunggal parade with Palagan Jati.

The festival also featured musical maestro Guruh Soekarno Putra and his Swara Mahardika troupe who led the colossal jaranan dance performed by local Trenggalek dancers. Pop singer Maudy Ayunda was also present at the event and performed her hit song “Perahu Kertas” (Paper Boat). (asw)
