If you pay attention, most ayam bakar in Jakarta is grilled using sweet soy sauce or kecap manis. This adds a slight sweet taste and for most people, Jakarta's ayam bakar feels perfect when you combine it with sambal (chili sauce). Talking about Indonesian cuisine is not complete without mentioning Padang. For sure, Padang restaurants are famous for several other dishes like rendang (beef simmered in coconut milk and spices) or dendeng (beef jerky). But traditional ayam bakar from Padang is also worth a try. It is interesting to taste the traditional Padang ingredients on top of ayam bakar. The dish is served at most Padang restaurants like Rumah Makan Sederhana. (kes)
