Over the years we’ve seen both monkeys and humans sent into space. Now, it’s chicken sandwich’s turn.
Famed restaurant chain KFC is taking one giant leap for fast food, as it is set to launch its Zinger chicken sandwich into space on July 21.
Through the use of an innovative, high-altitude and solar-powered balloon known as a Stratollite (the combination of “stratosphere and “satellite”), the fast-food giant seeks to be the first company to accomplish such a feat, Space.com reported.
If all goes according to plan, the fully equipped, high-powered balloon—with the tangy chicken sandwich on board—will zip up to about 28.5 miles above Earth.
It is projected to stay afloat for at least four days, where the Stratollite’s telemetry data recordings will keep track of findings to help future voyages by World View.

The space enterprise, meanwhile, lauded the project, which benefits both World View and KFC.
“This mission offers edge-of-space access to KFC, allowing them to embark upon a one-of-a-kind marketing experiment, while we get to pursue our maiden multiday Stratollite shakedown cruise and open unprecedented access to the stratosphere,” World View co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Tabber MacCallum said in the report. “It’s a double win.”
The fast-food giant has devised several schemes to promote the four-day trip, including dropping a single coupon to the ground.
