Lee, Yi win golds in triathlon

Athletes curious where to have fun in Bali Hong Kong's Chi Wo Daniel Lee and China's Yi Zhang came out as the strongest athletes after winning the triathlon competitions Sunday.

Lee battled his way to the gold in a time of 1:52:49.56 minutes Sunday. Junichi Yamamoto of Japan finished in second place in 1:53:15.25, followed by Andrew James Wright of Hong Kong in 1:54:19.08.

Yi led fellow Chinese runner Lin Xing into a one-two finish. Yi won the race in a time of 2:07:25.58 in the women's category. Lin clocked 2:07:25:60 and South Korean Jang Yunjung recorded 2:08:52.80 for the bronze in the three-sport competition.

The men's competition saw a remarkable comeback by the eventual champion.

Coming in fifth after the 1.5-kilometer ocean swimming leg, Lee managed to haul back the time deficit during the cycling leg, passing his four rivalsYamamoto, Wright and South Korea's Kim Juseok and Lee Yon-chang.

The triathletes cycled for laps of the course between Mertasari and Tanjung, covering a total distance of 40 kilometers After finishing the fourth lap, they abandoned their bicycles and set out on foot for the 10-kilometer run.

"We are very pleased to get the gold," Hong Kong's assistant coach Kevin Clark said.

Indonesia's hopeful Johan Jauhari could only finish in 15th in 2:02:22.30. Teammate Andi Edinata trailed in 19th in 2:05:56.64.

"I tried my best, but it was definitely impossible competing against the Asian champs," Johan said. -- JP/Niken Prathivi
