POSO, C. Sulawesi: Police have tightened security in Poso, an area once plagued by communal violence, after two explosions this week. Several posts have been set up to check vehicles and people entering and exiting the area.
Armed Mobile Brigade officers, deployed in Toyado, Lage district and Tumora, Poso Pesisir district, are using metal detectors to check vehicles and passengers.
Central Sulawesi Police Spokesman Adj. Snr. Comr. Irfaizal Nasution said the tight security comes in response to two huge explosion; the first in Kasintuwu, Poso City district on Jan. 19 and the second in a soccer field in Lawanga subdistrict the following day.
"The explosions have shocked the residents but caused neither fatalities nor damage to any buildings. The explosions did not disrupt residents' activities either," Irfaizal told The Jakarta Post on Monday. - JP
