Yogulicious offers premium self-serving frozen yogurt

F

amous for her cooking expertise and show "Barefoot Contessa", famous American chef Ina Garten once said, "Food is not about impressing people. It's about making them feel comfortable."

Back home, the idea was applied to Yogulicious, a newly opened outlet that offers frozen yogurt. The outlet gives customers freedom to serve themselves. Whether they want a cup of frozen yogurt with four different flavors or a spoonful of topping, Yogulicious gives them freedom to get it.

Customers can experience those privileges at Yogulicious, which is located in the first floor of Entertainment X'nter (EX) mall, Central Jakarta.

The opening of this latest yogurt outlet has added the number of similar business that has been mushrooming in the capital in the last one year.

One thing that differentiates Yogulicious from any other yogurt counters is that it offers self-serving frozen treat to its customers, letting them to create their own yogurt with scrumptious selections.

Just like its tag-line, "Frozen yogurt the way you want it", Yogulicious aims at giving choices to its customers by picking their own favorites flavors and toppings, said Alvinus Mardoko from Yogulicious.

"We want to give something different to public. We want to free people's minds in choosing something. You can do whatever you want to do.

"It is like eating nasi uduk *rice cooked with coconut milk served with egg or chicken* where you can pick your own side dishes," Alvin said. Yogulicious offers four natural flavors to choose from - original tart, refreshing strawberry, delightful mango and blissful lychee - as well as 42 toppings.

Once you come to the yogurt counter, you can pick one of the three sizes of cups - small, medium and large.

Later on, step aside in front of the four yogurt machines, nearby the cups. Fill your cup with yogurt as much as you like.

You can pick one among four flavors available or you can even mix the four of them.

In the topping counter, you are free to top it with fresh juicy fruits and scrumptious array of toppings.

Fresh toppings range from apple crunch, kiwi, peach, banana, blueberry, papaya to cantaloupe, while dried toppings include walnuts, chocolate chips, corn flakes, gummy bears, peanuts and mochi.

It also offers unique local-based toppings like sliced jackfruit and pandan shortcake.

After decorating your yogurt with the various toppings, you should measure the weight of your cup to calculate the price of the yogurt. Yogulicious charges you Rp 1,650 for every 10 grams you have taken and gives 10 percent offs for those who come on Mondays to Thursdays.

"We don't charge more for imported toppings. The price is completely based on the final weight of your yogurt cup," Alvin said.

You can later choose one of some colorful spoons nearby the cashier before sitting on one of about 30 egg-shaped seats in the counter, enjoying your self-serving yogurt.

If you are in a hurry and don't want to serve yourself, you can just ask for the counter's assistants to help you out.

The original yogurt itself does not taste too sour. If you have a sweet tooth, you can opt for the strawberry or mango ones.

Mango and strawberry are the two most best-selling yogurt flavors in Yogulicious, while mochi, gummy bear, longan and lychee are the most popular toppings.

"Many people also like our local toppings like the jack fruit and pandan shortcake. It might look weird to mix the two toppings with yogurt but they really go well with it. You can prove it," Alvin said/

He claimed that Yogulicious used 100 percent fat free and fresh milk (non-ultra high temperature or UHT milk), as well as yogurt cultures that contained probiotic, a healthy microorganism.

"The probiotic is really good for our health, like benefiting digestion process and increasing our body resistance."

He predicted that yogurt would be the next coffee, as people became more concerned in consuming healthy food.

In the near future, Yogulicious will serve two more fl avors, luscious grape and tangy kiwi.
