JAKARTA: Experts are questioning the reshuffling of the Cabinet to eliminate representatives of coalition partners perceived as disloyal to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Democratic Party
AKARTA: Experts are questioning the reshuffling of the Cabinet to eliminate representatives of coalition partners perceived as disloyal to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Democratic Party.
They also that this would put the President in a dangerous political position.
Indonesia Institute of Sciences political researcher Ikrar Nusa Bakti said Tuesday that the Cabinet reshuffle proposed late last week by Amir Syamsuddin, Anas Urbaningrum and Jafar Hafsah of the Democratic Party was inappropriate.
"Ministers can only be replaced for poor performance," he said. "Cabinet reshuffles should not be undertaken for political purposes.
"The fact that those party officials would make such a proposal indicate that they lack political savvy and experience," Ikrar said.
"Reshuffles are the sole prerogative of the President," he said.
Mohammad Qodari of Indo Barometer also warned that this reshuffle would have negative political implications for the current administration.
"The Democratic Party needs their coalitions partners to run a powerful government so it is most likely the President won't act on the proposal," he said.
