Navy chief of staff Adm. Muhammad Ali visited the United Arab Emirates on Thursday and Friday.

Ali paid a courtesy call to the UAE Navy commander Maj. Gen. Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi at the UAE Navy headquarters at Mina Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi.

Both naval leaders agreed to increase cooperation in personnel training and exchange.

Ali also visited the UAE Navy Baynunah-class corvette Al Hili, which was built locally by Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB).

The Al Hili is the sixth and last unit of the 915-tonne Baynunah-class corvette. The Baynunah, the lead ship of the class, was constructed at the French shipyard Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie, while the remaining five ships were made locally at ADSB.

The corvettes have a length of 71.3 meters and a beam of 11 m with a draft of 2.8 m.

The Baynunah-class corvettes are equipped with an OTO Melara 76-millimeter naval gun as the primary weapon, as well as two Rheinmetall MLG 27 mm guns.
