DENPASAR: The city administration organized a mass fumigation drive Friday as a response to the recent surge in the number of dengue fever cases.

The fumigation is expected to kill the larvae of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector of the disease.

City spokesperson Made Erwin Suryadarma, said the drive involved as many as 320 fumigation machines and the participation of local residents.

A contingent of Jumantik officers has also been deployed to conduct house-to-house inspections to determine whether water containers in houses are contaminated by mosquito larvae. - JP
