AKARTA: An Ari Sihasale and Nia Zulkarnaen film on the life of refugees in East Nusa Tenggara will be screened free of charge for the community in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara, on Indonesia's Independence Day.
"There's no cinema there. People ask us when the movie will be screened there. That's why we plan to screen the movie for free in Atambua on Indonesia's Independence Day on Aug. 17. The film will be screened outdoors," Ari, popularly called Ale, said Thursday as quoted by detikhot.com.
The film, titled Tanah Air Beta (My Motherland), tells the story of the plight of refugees between the borders of Timor Leste and Indonesia. The film shows thousands of refugees walking from East Timor to Tuapukan and Uabelo, East Nusa Tenggara. The refugees are those who chose to stay with Indonesia after a referendum that ended Indonesia's annexation toward Timor Leste in 1999.
Ale said the film did not try to give a complicated message. "With this story, we wanted to share that there people in East Nusa Tenggara have different fates to people in big cities such as Jakarta," Ale said.
Actors Alexandra Gottardo, Griffit Patricia, Marcel Raymond, Asrul Dahlan, Thessa Kaunang and Robby Tumewu, will play in the movie. - JP
