Guess what?:Melanie petitions against justice hopeful

S

inger-cum-activist Melanie Subono has filed a petition on online petition website change.org, urging members of the House of Representatives’ Commission III on law and human rights to vote against Supreme Court justice hopeful Muhammad Daming Sanusi, after he made a “rape joke” during a fit-and-proper test at the House on Monday.

“I demand that Daming issue a public apology over his statement and that House Commission III should not appoint a man who has no manners in his way of thinking or talking as a Supreme Court justice candidate,” Melanie wrote in the petition.

Daming told lawmakers at the hearing that some rape cases may involve consensual sex and therefore required more lenient sentences than the death penalty. His statement caused uproar from the public and state officials.

Melanie’s petition had attracted more than 6,500 signatures as of Tuesday afternoon.
