T

he swearing-in ceremony for the 45 new councilors on Yogyakarta'€™s Bantul regency legislative council on Wednesday was marred with a rally demanding a United Development Party (PPP) councilor be recalled for allegedly committing adultery.

The protesters'€™ coordinator, Suroso, who is also chairman of the Imogiri district branch of PPP, said that what had been committed by the re-elected councilor, Jumakir, went against the Islamic party'€™s principles.

Secretary of PPP'€™s Bantul branch, Agus Condet, said that a fact-finding team had verified the allegation and that Jumakir had admitted to the practicing adultery.

Chairman of PPP'€™s Bantul branch, Bariq Qufron, confirmed that Jumakir had confessed to the allegation that he was in a relationship outside his marriage and that he had yet to marry the other woman.

Separately, Jumakir said he would accept any decision the party made with regard to his situation. '€œThis is an internal matter so let the party handle it internally. Whatever the decision, I will accept it,'€ Jumakir said.
