The City Police will deploy 2,700 personnel to launch the Zebra Operation scheduled from Nov. 26 to Dec. 9.
Traffic Police director Sr. Comr. Restu Mulya Budiyanto told reporters on Friday that during the operation all officers would be asked to check if motorists' are complying with traffic laws such as possessing an authentic driver's license, ownership documents and vehicle taxation papers.
He said all officers who would take part in the operation had been ordered to take stern action against drivers violating traffic regulations, especially those going against the flow of traffic.
'We will be spending 10 percent of our energy on preventative measures, 10 percent on scolding reckless motorists and 80 percent on traffic law enforcement,' he said at the Jakarta Police headquarters, adding that there was no target for how many motorists would be fined during the operation.
Restu explained that the operation had a budget of Rp 2.9 billion (US$ 238,200) to finance the equipment for the programs on traffic law awareness, the police officers' lunch and transportation fees and also the administrative fees for writing up reports.
