he Jakarta Police have questioned the victim of an alleged sexual assault by renowned poet Sitok Srengenge, or Sitok Sudarto, to get additional information for her police report.
The University of Indonesia (UI) student, identified only as RW, reported Sitok in 2013 to the police for a 'date rape' that led to her falling pregnant. The police named Sitok a suspect in October 2014, however the legal process in the case has made little progress.
RW's lawyer, Iwan Pangka said the Jakarta Police summoned his client based on a recommendation from the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office to complete the case dossier.
Sitok has being charged with violating the Criminal Code's Article 294 on obscenity and Article 286 on crimes against decency and Friday's questioning session was held to build a stronger case on Article 294.
'The police questioned her from 10 a.m. to noon to get more information,' he said on Friday, adding that on the same day, the police also questioned Junaedi, an expert from UI on criminal law and professional ethics, as a witness.
Pangka said that RW, 21 at the time she reported the case, had been traumatized by the event, 'today's [Friday] investigation is to strengthen the articles of law as charged in the police report.' (rbk/nvn)(+++)
