AKARTA: The frontman of pop band Ungu, Pasha, says many of the band's fans have voiced opposition to his decision to run in the upcoming mayoral race in Palu, Central Sulawesi.
The vocalist has been nominated by the National Mandate Party (PAN) as the running mate for candidate Hidayat, a former high-ranking official in the Central Sulawesi administration.
The fans, known as Cliquers, want Pasha to end his political ambitions, concerned that he will leave the band if elected deputy mayor.
'Many Cliquers don't want to see me become deputy Palu mayor,' he told news portal tribunnews.com on Thursday.
However, Pasha declined to bow to fans' demands, saying that by serving as deputy mayor, he could make a contribution to the city.
'Thank God if I get the position and can contribute. But if I don't get that chance, that's fine too,' he said.
