ouse of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto may finally face questioning as a graft suspect soon as the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) doctor has declared that the Golkar Party chairman's health condition has improved, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah has said.

The announcement was made after the KPK's investigators and a doctor visited Setya at the Premier Hospital in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, and received explanation from the doctor who had been overseeing the politician.

"The bottom line, according to the doctor, is that a questioning [of Setya], can now be carried out," Febri said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Setya has been named a suspect in the high profile e-ID case, which incurred an estimated Rp 2.3 trillion (US$175 million) in state losses. He allegedly played a key role in a plan to swindle funds earmarked for the project.

He has previously missed two KPK summonses for questioning as a suspect on Sept. 11 and 18, citing illness.

However, the KPK did not question Setya at the hospital.

“We came only to monitor his condition. [Setya] was sleeping when the team entered his room,” Febri said.

Setya’s heart had improved after the catheterization examination and ring installation. His blood pressure was also relatively stable, he added.

Febri said the result of the visit would be reported to KPK leaders. The antigraft body had also been thinking about whether it was necessary to ask for an opinion from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI). (dra/bbs)
