The Jakarta administration has raised the monthly rent for 15 low-cost apartments in the capital by an average 20 percent.
The rent increase, stipulated in Gubernatorial Decree No. 55/2018 on housing tax adjustments, applies not only to tenants holding private rental agreements, but also to low-income families renting under the city's housing program.
The rent increase has been applied to the Sukapura, Penjaringan, Marunda, Kapuk Muara apartments in North Jakarta, the Flamboyan and Tambora I-IV apartments in West Jakarta, the Pondok Bambu, Cakung Barat, Pinus Elok, Pulogebang, Cipinang Muara, Pulo Jahe and Tipar Cakung low-cost apartments in East Jakarta, and the Jatirawasari and Karang Anyar apartments in Central Jakarta.
The rent for a 32-square-meter unit at the Jatirawasari apartment, for example, has increased from Rp 588,000 (US$40) to Rp 705,600 ($48) per month.
At the Penjaringan low-cost apartment, the monthly rent for an 18-square-meter unit has increased from Rp 48,000 to Rp 57,600.
Tenants under the city's housing program at the Marunda low-cost apartment, meanwhile, must now pay Rp 190,800 per month, from Rp 159,000 per month previously. (vla)
