eskipun pemerintah baru-baru ini membatasi social commerce (perdagangan lewat sosial media), beberapa platform media sosial dilaporkan tertarik untuk terlibat dalam e-commerce (platform dagang elektronik) di Indonesia. Namun, menurut para analis bisnis, mereka harus melewati beberapa aturan.

Sejak penerapan Peraturan Menteri Perdagangan (Pemendag) No. 31/2023 sebulan lalu yang bertujuan mempromosikan persaingan yang "adil dan jujur", perusahaan-perusahaan media sosial belum melakukan perubahan yang mencolok pada platform mereka untuk berekspansi ke social commerce.

Namun, beberapa media dan sumber penelitian melaporkan beberapa hal yang memicu spekulasi tentang TikTok. Platform tersebut ingin meluncurkan kembali TikTok Shop di Indonesia setelah penutupan paksa layanan e-commerce tersebut pada tanggal 4 Oktober.

Tetapi TikTok belum mengumumkan langkah tersebut. The Financial Times menggambarkan situasi seputar rencana bisnis perusahaan China di Indonesia tersebut sebagai "fleksibel" dalam sebuah artikel yang diterbitkan pada hari Jumat (27 Oktober).

Menurut laporan Financial Times, ByteDance yang berbasis di Beijing, pemilik aplikasi berbagi video yang populer TikTok, telah mengumpulkan tim produk dan teknologi di Singapura. Mereka mendiskusikan ide-ide setelah Jakarta memberlakukan larangan tersebut. Menurut narasumber,  saat ini ByteDance memang tidak secara aktif membuat aplikasi terpisah. Namun, perusahaan tersebut sedang "menjelajahi semua opsi yang tersedia".

Sementara itu, Alphabet, perusahaan induk Google dan YouTube, sedang mencari lisensi e-commerce di Indonesia. Demikian menurut laporan Reuters, tanpa merinci lisensi yang dicari.

Namun, direktur YouTube regional Asia Pasifik Ajay Vidyasagar membantah laporan tersebut. Ia katakan bahwa Alphabet tidak punya rencana mengajukan permohonan lisensi e-commerce. Bantahan Vidyasagar dilaporkan oleh Katadata pada hari Jumat.
