ix painters from the Borobudur temple complex in Magelang, Central Java, will exhibit their works at Thanh Ha Terracotta Park in Hoi An, Vietnam, from Oct. 3 to Oct. 27.

The exhibition will reportedly showcase artwork from 21 international artists.

The artists -- Erika, Sujono, Umar Chusaeni, Utami Atosia, Wawan Geni and Yashumi Ishii -- will exhibit around 25 pieces of art related to local culture and the daily lives of the Borobudur temple complex's residents.

Umar, the coordinator of the Borobudur Indonesia Artists Community (KSBI) and owner of Limanjawi Art House Borobudur, told Antara news agency that the artwork also featured Indonesian flora and fauna as well as aspects of gotong royong (a concept involving mutual cooperation) of the Borobudur community.

Umar said the event provided Indonesian artists the opportunity to draw inspiration from international artists, while also learning how to further develop the painting art form in Southeast Asia.

The event would help the Borobudur artists to improve their quality of work, he added.

Furthermore, Umar explained that since Hoi An was a popular destination among international tourists, the artists could use the exhibition to promote Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple, through their artwork. (jes/asw)
