ore than just a sport, golf is a leisure activity that allows us to interact with friends, family members or colleagues. However, many people may not consider playing golf, because it commonly is done early in the morning, which means waking up to get to a golf course that may be on the outskirts of the city.

If you’re not in a nine-to-five job, you might golf in the afternoon, but Jakarta’s heat may get in the way of your good intentions to be active outdoors at that time of the day.

If the idea of playing golf when the sun sets and the air cools down appeals to you, there is good news.

The Senayan National Golf Club has launched Night Golf, which you can enjoy at the heart of Jakarta from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. This could also be a good idea for those who wish to wait for the traffic to untangle.

The Jakarta Post has experienced the 33-hectare 18-hole course bathed in electric light and with twinkling skyscrapers against the night sky.

To turn night into day, the course is equipped with LED lights provided by South Korea’s GigaTera, a company experienced in illuminating sporting arenas around the world, such as the Yankee Stadium in New York and the Alpensia Sports Park in Pyeongchang, where the Olympic Winter Games took place.

Night golfers at the Senayan National Golf Club are therefore able to see their game clearly, from teeing off to putting. Unable to make a bogey because of poor lighting? Unlikely. Instead, you may blame it on the obstacles, such as bunkers, a river and an artificial lake, but that challenge is what it’s all about, right?

Apart from the pleasant lighting and views of lush greens, the cool breeze is a highlight of the night golf experience. This combination attracts up to 70 golfers each evening, according to Senayan National Golf Club sales and marketing manager Velisa Harahap.

For comparison, approximately 130 golfers play the game in the morning and afternoon combined. Those who wish to play during less busy times may opt to come on the weekend.

Located in a compound that also houses a few eateries, namely Takumi Robata & Sushi, Terrace Brasserie and Café du Jour, the Senayan National Golf Club makes a good alternative for spending quality time in the Senayan area.
