apanese sneaker and streetwear retailer Atmos is set to open its first store in Indonesia. The store, scheduled to open in December, will be located at the Plaza Indonesia mall in Central Jakarta.

Visitors will be offered 45 sneakers by Atmos and other brands. “We’ll have special releases [sneakers] available at the store as well,” Marcel Lukman, president director of Atmos Indonesia, said in a press conference at the Urban Sneaker Society event in South Jakarta on Friday. “Most of the collection is similar to [what is available at] Atmos’ store in Japan, but sometimes the ones that are available here cannot be found in Japan and the other way around.”

Marcel added that the company would also be launching an Indonesian online store of Atmos in the same month.

“It’s not easy to bring Atmos to Indonesia because [the company is] very selective,” said Marcel. “We’re just lucky to know and discuss with them. Most importantly, they want partners who understand sneakers well.”

Founded in 2000, Atmos has collaborated with other renowned brands like NIKE, Adidas, Reebok, Puma and Asics Tiger. With that in mind, Marcel said it was possible for Atmos to team up with Indonesian designers or artists. “We’re open to collaborating with local designers or artists, but we’re still unable to disclose what the collaboration will look like,” he said.

Hirofumi “Koji” Kojima, creative director of Atmos, expressed a similar opinion about collaboration: “It’s possible and it’s going to be interesting.”

Atmos originated as a small retail store in Tokyo and has since expanded to cities outside Tokyo, opening stores in New York, Seoul and Bangkok.
