fter a week of teasing on social media and street billboards, local shoe brand Compass® finally revealed its collaboration with the Australian one-man band Tame Impala.
Titled Artificial Vibration, this international collaboration is said to present a collection of shoes and apparel that “manifests the energy, sound and soul of Tame Impala's music”, the brand said in a statement.
"The initial idea was so simple: How can we make a pattern that represents the identity of Tame Impala from a series of numbers? An idea arose to extract the songs from Tame Impala into data sets that would then be processed into an image. The pure energy of Kevin Parker when recording his songs, the vibrations of Kevin Parker that we can feel from every note that he composes [inspired this collection]," explained the creative director of Compass® Aji Handoko Purbo.
This collaboration brings out three limited shoe editions, each inspired by and representing a popular Tame Impala song.
SPECTRUM 01, with its waveform pattern, captures the essence of Tame Impala’s sleeper hit and cult classic “The Less I Know The Better”; SPECTRUM 02, with its tie-dye design, expresses the mood and feel of the song “Yes I’m Changing” from the album Currents; SPECTRUM 03 visualizes the shape of a spectrum to convey the energy in the song “Lost In Yesterday” off the psychedelic rock act’s latest album The Slow Rush, released last year.
Taking the collaboration a step further, the shoes include a QR code on their label which will immediately direct people to an audio file of the song. A line from each song is also inscribed on the shoe, while the transparent soles contain a print of the song’s sound waves.
Shoes aside, the collaboration offers an apparel collection in the form of shorts and socks, on which are written "Listen to Tame Impala", “I Know Kevin” or “Kevin Who?”
