A beautiful young woman, Linda Susanti, sits on her wedding dress while holding two young coconut leaves covered with betel leaves as a symbol of her commitment to her chosen man in Luhur Poten temple at Mount Bromo, East Java, in December 2016.

However, this is not a regular wedding ceremony. It is better described as an answer to a call from the spirits. Linda, who works in the supernatural world, says that she has to marry a male spirit who lives on Mount Bromo.

Therefore, Linda, accompanied by Balinese and Bromo Hindu community members, is holding a spiritual marriage based on occult orders she recently received to uphold the integrity of Indonesia. Indonesia’s national symbol, Garuda Pancasila, is used as a symbol of the groom during the wedding celebration, which lasts for a whole day.

The wedding ceremony at Luhur Poten temple on Mount Bromo is similar to other Hindu Javanese ceremonies. Hundreds of offerings and an animal are being prepared to be given to Mount Bromo.

In the realm of public opinion, this wedding may trigger negative reactions. However, from the cultural point of view, a wedding with the "Garuda Pancasila" symbol is full of meaning. We are taught to love Pancasila as a symbol of our country.

Linda’s wedding with Pancasila should make us aware of our philosophy and return us to Pancasila and its motto "Bhineka Tunggal Ika" (Unity in Diversity).
