Letter: A1GP Street Racing

Lippo Village's ambition to host the A1GP Street Race has only served to torment its residents, in particular those of Lippo Village Central.

The new facilities that have been built to fulfill the pride of Lippo Village management (and have proved to fail the A1 requirements) have caused long queues, chaotic traffic jams, as well as damaged roads.

Our peaceful and safe environment has been disrupted as the traffic has been directed to the housing clusters, allowing public transport such as buses and trucks to enter private areas.

The internal public transportation has stopped operating and the beauty of the environment has been ruined by hurried construction of roads and tournament facilities that have flattened the green areas.

The first tournament took place on Feb. 6-8, 2009 and we were all trapped in unbearable traffic jams, even our church had to change its schedule to anticipate latecomers.

As the vehicles coming in outnumbered the capacity of the available roads, we were then directed to alternative roads which were far away and in an unacceptably poor condition. The situation was made even worse by irresponsible traffic officials accepting money to allow some cars to get to the facilities ahead of others.

But what is more worrying and frustrating is that this situation looks to continue all year long as Lippo Village has planned to conduct more activities each month until the A1GP can finally (hopefully) take place in November.

I regret the arrogance of Lippo Village management in building such facilities for the sake of "national pride" while neglecting its residents' interests by using vital public facilities.

Lippo Village management should have thought long and hard and consulted with its residents before constructing any facilities that have given no direct benefit but have had such a huge impact on the lives of so many who have contributed each month to the town management and who have paid a large sum of money to live in Lippo Village.

For this reason, I strongly urge the management of Lippo Village to be more considerate and prioritize its resident's needs and thus stop the chaos caused by the construction of the street circuit immediately.
