AKARTA: State-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja began distributing Rp 7.8 billion (US$678,500) in compensation to the families of the 311 victims who drowned when the Teratai Prima ferry sank in waters off West Sulawesi in January.
The relatives of the 42 victims from East Kalimantan were the first to receive their payments.
"The compensation payment for each individual death amounts to Rp 25 million.
