ndonesian badminton doubles pair Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan won the men's doubles final at the Japan Open tournament Sunday with a win over compatriots Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki and Rian Sukmawan.
Markis and Hendra sealed the win in straight sets, 21-19 and 24-22, to claim only their second title of the year after their Asian championship crown in Suwon, South Korea, last April.
After winning the first set, Kido and Hendra went down in the second set 16-20. However, Yonathan and Rian made a number of unforced errors, effectively handing the set and the match to Kido and Hendra.
In the men's singles draw, Indonesian badminton ace Taufik Hidayat failed to claim the men's single title at the US$200,000 Japan Open after losing 21-15, 21-12 to China's Bao Chunlai in Sunday's final.
The defeat extends Taufik's dry spell at the Japan Open to three years.
