ndonesians are the largest users of search engine Yahoo in Southeast Asian countries thanks to an improvement in local content, Yahoo! Indonesia has said.

Yahoo! Indonesia country editor Budi Putra said in Jakarta on Thursday that Indonesian users of the search engine would further increase in the future given that internet penetration in Indonesian was still among the lowest levels in the region.

In order to increase the number of users Yahoo! Indonesia will further enrich its feature and local contents, develop community engagement, and create more partnerships with other content providers,  he said

“For example, we have recently developed Mim as a simple way of blogging via Yahoo! Indonesia where users will be provided with a chance to express their creativity online in the ‘Meme’ of the Week Challenge competition being run between April 21 and June 30,” Budi said.

About 1.8 million users visit the internet everyday in Indonesia in which mobile subscribers are more than 10 times the number of internet users based on PCs, he said.  “Thus it means Yahoo! Mobile search today is increasing at almost four times the search volume on PCs,” he added.

According to him,  each visitor visits on average 9 times per month for 35 minutes per visit. This equals to 7.8 billion page views and 5.7 billion minutes per month.

“Almost 79 percent of the internet population in Indonesia using Yahoo. So, in Indonesia, Yahoo! is placed in the highest position,” he said.

“Our mobile users are also on the rise,” he added.

On mail, Yahoo! dominates the mail market in Indonesia with around 3.4 million users. This amount is over 2 million more than the second biggest competitor.

About 0.5 million users visit Yahoo! Mail per day, generating 250 million page views per month and spending 270 million minutes per month on email.

On Messenger, Yahoo! also dominates Indonesian market with 2.6 million users or over 2 million more than the second biggest competitor to Yahoo.

“These are our biggest achievement in Southeast Asia,” Budi said.
