he dire situation of Indonesian crew members stranded aboard the Gabon-flagged LNG tanker Gas Falcon has worsened following a collision with a fishing vessel on Wednesday.
The impact caused the tanker, dubbed Gas Falcon, to leak and tilt approximately 15 degrees, raising concerns over the safety of the crew and the vessel’s stability. However, Indonesian authorities in Mozambique reported that the vessel has since been stabilized after water ballast was installed to correct the tilt.
Captain Muhammad Aslam, a Pakistani national commanding the vessel, said that no crew members were injured in the collision. However, he said the incident has further lowered the morale of the crew, who have been stranded aboard the ship for ten months.
“We’re shocked and traumatized. We’re worried the ship might sink because seawater has flooded two cargo holds,” he told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
“It feels like no one cares about us here, not even if someone dies,” he added.
