AKARTA: WBA featherweight super champion Chris “The Dragon” John of Indonesia said Tuesday that he had maintained his body weight and was ready to fight Argentinean Fernando Saucedo on Sunday.
Chris said that he would train harder with sparring partners to maintain his current weight.
“I have gained my ideal body weight. I just have to keep it stable [until the official scaling],” he said after a public training session at a boxing club in the National Monument complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Chris’ ideal body weight is 57.1 kilograms. The official scaling is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
“In general, I have prepared well. I’m ready to implement my strategy in the upcoming bout,” the 31-year-old fighter added.
The bout between Chris and Saucedo has been highly anticipated after the title holder had to postpone two previous duels because of injury.
In overall standings, Chris has fought 45 times with 43 victories and two draws, while Saucedo has a record of 38 victories, four defeats and two draws. Chris has not fought this year due to injury, while 29-year-old Saucedo beat Mexico’s Jorge Martin Garcia in January. Both Chris and Saucedo are right-handed fighters. —JP
