our comments on the plan of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to issue a fatwa banning rich people from using subsidized fuels:

It is a very noble thought. But what are the criteria for being rich. How are we going to implement it?

The MUI should refrain from issuing such fatwa. Let everyone decide how to lead their own personal life and draw their own line on religion.

This is a big mistake because Indonesia is not an Islamic state.

It is not the job of MUI to issue such a decree.

Nadya Utami

So now fatwas can be politicized? It would be better for MUI to focus on banning smoking.

Yos

This is not MUI’s domain

Iman Nugroho

This is a great move.

Mario Masaya

Why does it come from MUI?

Fadhila Ainur Rizqi

Morality defined by guidance on what’s right and wrong sounds shallow, prone to cheating, inconsistencies and compartmentalization.

Ibnu Najib

I think it’s OK. That’s their job.

Bustomi

It’s about fairness and justice. Is it also fair they use the health subsidy?

Arief Rachman

Indonesia is not just for Muslims.

Why is MUI dealing with fuel?

Buds Gint

What is the criteria for rich people? Owning a car cannot be considered rich.

What about the people who use their cars only for small trading to make ends meet?

Many questions are lingering in my head.
