AMBI: The city of Jambi was shrouded in smoke from forest fires on Friday.
Doni Osmond, an official of the forestry agency, said the smoke came from Muarojambi regency where forest fires were reported.
Besides Muarojambi, the local authority identified three other hot spots with two in Tebo and one in Sarolangun.
“The forest fires have been taking place for the past few days. Firefighters are still struggling to control them,” Hasvia, Doni’s colleague, said.
He blamed the fires on people clearing land for cultivation, adding that the fire had ravaged 30 hectares of peat land.
Despite causing a drop in visibility, the smoke is not considered serious enough to disrupt flights.
