ANYUMAS: Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Didiek Sutomo Triwidodo said that circulation of counterfeit money in Central Java province was on the rise. He explained that officers had recently uncovered the circulation of fake money in southern parts of the province, including Banyumas, Banjarnegara and Wonosobo.
“We’ve secured evidence of bogus money worth Rp 74 million [US$8214], in the form of Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000 denominations. We’ve also arrested five suspects, including their mastermind,” he said on Wednesday.
The police chief said the counterfeit money was circulated in markets where most traders did not use detecting equipment. “That’s why their actions are difficult to uncover,” he said.
Didiek Sutomo reminded those frequently making large transactions to be aware of the use of counterfeit money.
