OGOR: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono planted trees on Monday in Merah Putih Hill, Sentul, Citeureup, Bogor, West Java for the Indonesia Plant Trees Day event and the National Month of Planting Trees. The location is within the complex of the Indonesia Peace and Security Center.
Also attending the event were First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Boediono and Herawati. Several ministers were also present, such as Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa.
News agency Antara reported that in the event, Yudhoyono planted mangleid trees (Manglietia glauca), while Ani Yudhoyono planted melinjo trees (Gnetum gnemon). Vice President Boediono planted suren trees (Toona sureni) and his wife Herawati planted salam trees (Syzygium polyanthum).
The tree planting initiative was simultaneously conducted in several areas by 8,820 people, consisting of military troops, police, forest wardens, boy scouts and students.
