President Susilo Bambang Yu-dhoyono has asked the Indonesian people not to use violence in dealing with religious differences.
“We should not use force, let alone violence against those who are different from us,” Yudhoyono said in his speech during the 150th anniversary of Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP) church at the Bung Karno stadium on Sunday. He said that every religion taught noble values and kindness, which had become the basis of developing the nation’s character, Antara news wire reported.

More empty words? The time for action is not only here it is years overdue. I guess we might as well give up waiting.

It is more empty talk. If SBY believes in what he says, then he should demand that the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the church in Bogor be implemented immediately.
It is shameful that SBY should be preaching tolerance to the victims when he should be preaching to those that are the attackers. He should start with his close friends.
SBY should take his message and ram it down the throats of radical groups. Will that ever happen? I think not, he is one of them.

That’s right Mr. President, talk is cheap! If you are serious about preventing religious violence, why don’t you tell your attorney general and the police to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling to open the GKI Yasmin church?
Anto
Most religious-based violence carried out by extremist organizations.
Mr. President, what do you know about these problems in the country? You are a leader.
The mayor of Bogor has violated the law, but he still enjoys support from local councilors and he remains practicing his wrong-doing.
The mayor of Bogor is ignoring the law even violating the law, but it seems Mr. President agrees with him. And here you are, Mr. President, telling the people to avoid religious-based violence. What do you mean, Mr. President? Is Pancasila still valid or is it already destroyed?
It could be nice if Mr. President could clearly explain where he stands in this matter. We know you understand English very well. I hope you read this or at least be told by your advisors around you.

He goes to the victims and preaches peace and non-violence toward the crimes perpetuated against them by thugs.

Does SBY know about the problem regarding the church in Bogor which has been illegally closed by the mayor? Why does he not intervene in this issue? Why does he not tell the mayor that he has to obey the law?
Toninho
Has SBY got the courage to say something like that in a mosque?

How can a peace message be heard when Islamic radicals are still running wild ... and on the same
note religious minorities still live in fear? Talk is cheap when action is not processed.
TF
Dear SBY, please give the same speech to the FPI. We hope you are brave enough to do this. The message needs to go out to all sides. It’s too easy to speak nice words to relatively weak minority groups only.
