urakarta: Flood waters from the Bengawan Solo River in Surakarta, Central Java, may hit the downstream areas in East Java, including Bojonegoro, Tuban, Lamongan and Gresik, on Tuesday night.
Head of the technical implementation unit of the Water Resources Management Agency for Bengawan Solo River in Bojonegoro, Agus Bachtiar, predicted that if it rained in Surakarta and Bojonegoro, downstream areas would be inundated.
It would take 40 hours before the flood waters reached Bojonegoro, antaranews.com reported.
In anticipation of the floods, alternative water gates in Sedayu Lawas, Lamongan, have been opened to allow the water to flow into the Java Sea.
As long as it did not rain, the floods would be under control, Agus said.
On Monday night, flood waters in Jurug, Surakarta, receded from 11 to about seven meters.
